The Professional Development Committee is dedicated to bridging the gap between academic life and the professional world. Our mission is to equip students with the essential skills needed for a seamless transition into the legal job market.
We manage the local round of applications for the ELSA Traineeships programme, ELSA’s longest-running initiative that connects law students with prestigious law firms, providing hands-on experience in various legal fields. We review and process applications, ensuring accuracy before forwarding them to the next stage of the programme.
To enhance students’ employability, we organize numerous workshops and events where experienced alumni share insights on key topics such as CV building, networking, and career opportunities.
Additionally, in collaboration with JFV Ouranos and the Law Faculty, we host the annual European Career Day, a one-day event that allows law and social sciences students to engage with representatives from governmental institutions, NGOs, and top law firms.
Our goal is to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and connections they need to succeed in their legal careers.

The Competitions Committee organises a variety of competitions in different fields of law, offering an intellectually stimulating exercise and a hands-on opportunity to engage in both written and oral advocacy. The different types of competitions include moot courts, legal debates, negotiation competitions and client consultation competitions. We provide students with numerous opportunities to develop essential practical skills, such as public speaking, persuasive argumentation, critical thinking, research and teamwork. Annually, we organise local rounds of national competitions, where the winning teams proceed to the following round at national level. Other competition-related events are mooting workshops, aimed also at introducing students to the several moot courts that teams representing our Faculty of Law participate in. The ultimate goal is to prepare students to excel in international competitions as well as to equip them with useful tools to take on the challenges of the legal profession.

The Academic Activities Committee is dedicated to enriching students’ life during their academic journey. The Committee is aiming to further the students’ knowledge and enhance their inner-personal and legal skills. We organise events around the curriculum catered to students.

The Academic Activities Committee is well-known for its workshops, information nights and interactive sessions designed to support academic growth fostering critical thinking among students. We aim to create opportunities to bridge the gap between the PBL at Maastricht University and real word scenarios, for students to deepen their understanding, develop essential skills and cultivate their passion for knowledge.

Navigating life’s intricate fabric, choices unfold paths to the extraordinary, demanding creativity, curiosity, and courage for a truly fulfilling journey.
